If the occupant(s) is dependent on life-support equipment and/or special heating or cooling needs a back-up power supply needs to be installed. Back-up generators can run on natural gas, propane or gasoline. They need to be installed by a professional and wired directly into the power supply and turn on when appropriate current is not available and turns off when power is restored to prevent a surge.
